California Math Framework: 8th grade algebra is back, baby!!
Public comment for algebra on Mon 11/13 10am! We’ll rally beforehand.
City Guardians Academy is starting this weekend — we’re excited to train some great candidates! We do need donations to cover our costs.
Join SF Guardians ($60/year)
By joining SF Guardians, you make it possible to fight for algebra, train great candidates for city office, and keep the lights on around here.
What’s going on in SF schools? A tentative agreement has been reached to forestall strikes with the teachers & service staff — fingers crossed!
Algebra is back in the California Math Framework!
They fixed it in the editing process!!!!
Your voice made a huge difference — the State Board of Education editors heard you and deleted all statements that explicitly discouraged Algebra 1 for 8th graders!!!!
This is a massive turnaround in public policy that's going to benefit every public school student in CA. You’ve preserved Algebra access for almost 5 million kids over the next decade.
THANK YOU for speaking up!!!! And thanks to all the advocates who fought hard for years against this broken policy. You did it.
Of course, here in SF we’re not out of the woods yet. The district has spun up a committee to bring algebra back for the 2024-2025 school year, which is a promising sign. And, we’re going to keep the pressure on to make sure that promise is kept.
Speaking of keeping the pressure on…
Come talk to the BoS Rules Committee about algebra Mon 11/13 10am
The Board of Supervisors’ Rules Committee will be having a public hearing about algebra on Monday 11/13 at 10am at city hall! If you can set aside this time to come to the meeting and comment about algebra, we would LOVE LOVE LOVE for you to come. (We’ll have algebra stickers for everyone, and you’ll get to meet folks in the community!)
We’re organizing a rally before the meeting — Supervisors Engardio and Safaí are planning to speak — and would LOVE to have you there if you have the extra time. More info / signups as we get closer… (and if you can bring a box of donuts / coffee, let me know!!)

What’s going on in San Francisco’s schools?
Tentative agreement reached to pay our teachers and staff more!!! If you’re an SFUSD parent, things are looking up. The district has come to a tentative agreement with the teachers’ union and with SEIU. Congratulations to everyone involved for their hard work!!! And we’re hoping both agreements are approved by the unions’ membership.
We love you guys and your passion for our schools,
Autumn & Siva
